NIGERIA IN INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL FRIENDLY SCAM

NFF President, Aminu Maigari

Nigeria versus Guatemala match just like the widely promoted OBAMA FEDERATION CUP tourney in USA are afterall a scam. Checks by this reporter has shown graphically that these events were planned in the imagination of the promoters without following laid out procedures for such games in the United States of America where they are to be played.
It is so authoritative that there is no agreement in place as of yet to play the Guatemalan game on the much advertised 9th February, 2011. Neither is there any room for the Obama Federation Cup tourney. So the question is, who is deceiving the Nigerian nation in these circumstances?
This reporter contacted the Guatemalan Football FA this weekend and nothing has been arranged or agreed to as of yet. Also, in order for friendly matches to take place in the US, the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) would have to approve the match with other logistics, coordination, planning, hotel, insurance, security, stadium allocation and all before an agreement is reached by both countries.
Also, there is the issue of a match appearance fee which the organisers would have to pay both Nigeria and Guatemala before the game is played. Based on what our sources in the Guatemalan FA said, that has not been discussed yet.
Although, “we won't mind playing Nigeria, but all issues have to be sorted out first before the game takes place. We would need assurances that Nigeria would show if they really want to play the match in Miami. The history of Nigeria not honoring friendly matches in the past is also a factor that will determine whether they are serious about this game or not.”
When we reached the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) on phone Friday, the official who refused to be named said, “here, we have processes that needed to be put in place before such matches are played. The way it is, you cannot definitely play these matches in view of the time constraints. We need to confirm and approve of such matches before the match promoters can even go to town. Now, by this, the promoters have breached our rules because you are already in the public domain without getting approval. Surely that match can’t go on in the United States.”
According to the USSF website, “For all international matches and international tournaments, the Federation approval is required. No public announcement of any international match or international tournament may be made until the Federation grants written approval for the match or tournament. If a Promoter conducts any advertising or makes any public announcement before written permission has been granted by the Federation, the Federation may discipline the promoter, either by fining the promoter a minimum of $1,000 for each incident, by denying approval of the match or tournament, or by levying any other penalty that the Federation feels is just and necessary.”
For an international match or tournament application must be submitted no later than thirty (30) days before the date of the intended match by submitting a completed application form with an application fee of $75.00, signed hosting agreement and a copy of the rules for the match or tournament.
None of these procedures has been put in place. Therefore, it is clear cut that these two games are definitely not going to be played as the Guatemalan FA neither the Obama Cup can hold in the USA in view of the above;
As a further show that some people are deceiving Nigerians with the promotion of these two games is that, even if like the fire brigade approach known with Nigerians, the application is submitted to the USSF, they will only give conditional approval and “is not finally approved until the Federation has received confirmation from FIFA that it deems the tournament rules acceptable.
The USSF provision also breached by the Nigerian versus Guatemala match involves that where she provided that, “Neither Promoter nor any other private individual shall use the Federation’s name for speculative or promotional purposes.”
Babatunde Epoyun is the FIFA agent credited with organising the Guatemala match while another FIFA agent, Pius Oleh, is also credited by the Nigerian FA with the Obama Federation Cup tourney in Detroit also scheduled for later in the month.
A visit to Epoyun’s website http://soccereventsusa.com/about.html does not even have the Nigerian match on his event list rather, he had a botched match as the only credential he can parade of the Nigerian Olympic team.

  1. My thoughts are, i will not risk hundreds of thousands of $ to make NON refundable deposits (meanwhile by now everyone where requesting for full payments) and on 4th of February you wake up and FIFA suspends Nigeria. These guys have their ears to the ground and where convinced except the case was pulled, there is every possibility of losing out.
In fairness to NFF they tried to douse the Court Issue by last week issuing a strongly worded comfort letter to assure that the match would go on but personally i thought the only thing that could have saved the day was a Full Corporate Guarantee by NFF to Offset any expense incurred by the investors but come to think of it, they are still negotiating with Iran to pay for the breach of contract.
The dilemma continued till end of week with the Guatemala Director of sports having to fly over to Florida with the aim to get paid, access hospitality arrangements amongst other logistics issue only to be caught up in the court case stories and press statements.
The issue of US soccer could not have been completed obviously without payments hurdling the pre-requisites but a late registration with penalties possibility is there and would have been made.
NFF have all possible correspondence and documents to verify but as i said, its their call. I want to believe the current state/position will be announced by them in due course.
    Cheers.

But, why is our football administration be-clouded by "china-made" people? Is it not time to do something drastic? Lord hear our cry.

My dear Mr. infosports, I thought some of us were meant to appreciate that as a journalist, I DO NOT OWE YOU NOR YOUR FRIEND any duty. I owe my conscience and my nation the biggest duty in defence of the global principle of PUBLIC INTEREST.
If my piece is so considered as "unfounded, defamatory and liable piece" why are you not going to court?
You do not have a monopoly of bad language. I have done my work by reaching all the parties central to my story. I defer to the ungentlemanly choice of denigrating my person as a professional. As far as I am concerned, you reserve your right to state your facts but do not have the right to abuse and be utterly careless since your friend whose interest you want to protect will not have any business to do with me (the writer) but with his client (the NFF) which is a public agency to which I have unfettered rights to report. So?
I would have enjoyed meeting you with more facts of my investigation but you have lost the intellection base and therefore, can ask your clients (the NFF) to act on your behalf.
    Thanks and cheers.

  6. Mr Info Sports-

What you write in here is nothing more than excuses to cover up for the way you have handled this supposed friendly match between Nigeria and Guatemala which is to take place in Miami next month. What Mr Olajide has done is to investigate and bring to light what process and steps are needed to be done before a friendly match of this magnitude can take place in the U.S.A and he has done it with the article and piece he wrote in here. Why would FIFA all of a sudden decide to ban Nigeria because of what? I believe it is just an excuse for you to back out of this friendly match and come up with an excuse, using FIFA and NFF as a cover up to justify how poorly you and your group have conducted this whole process. This process of arranging friendly matches in the US shouldn't be a hassle as long as all requirements are met before a final agreement is reached by all parties involved. Did you and your group even bother to check what needed to be done first before deciding to put this game together?

As much as NFF have their own issues which is there for all to see, why should they offset and pay you back for something you are trying to promote? Isn't it the job of a promoter to make sure everything is in place? all parties in involved have the right to ask for full or partial payments and some type of guarantees to be in place in other for this game to take place. Do you understand what it means to put a friendly match together?

What is now coming out in the open and based on this article written by Mr Olajide is he is right and it shows this is another wild goose chase by both you, your group and the NFF...

As with everything else our football federation does, this one is also kaput, nada, zero. Let’s just save ourselves the stress. Mr. infosports says top teams have been booked. The question is what were the guys in our football federation doing when others were making hay? Kpooo. I beg make we hear word jare.

  8. This our great country Nigeria at it again. Charles Oputa aka Charley Boy captured it all when he said in Nigeria just anything can happen. The NFF brandished a document earlier today stating the commitment of Guetamala but like everything Nigerian, we need to wait till the end to see the authenticity of the whole
