Siasia: Nigerians are divided about his sack |
In any business endeavour, once there is failure, it is natural someone somewhere should pay the price of the failure. Except that in Nigeria, we have a stupid parlance that nobody resigns from public office for any offence. We also know that in Nigeria, some persons can and should be sacked in the event of a monumental national disgrace and violent assault of the psyche of the people like the failure to qualify for the African Nations Cup.
Two heads should be held high for the guillotine in this instance. The head of the NFF board led by Aminu Maigari or that of coach Samson Siasia. The grounds include that, when the NFF has led a system whose final output has failed, they are supposed to be reasonable and responsible enough to resign or be sacked by the Minister for Sports and Chairman of the NSC, Yusuf Suleiman.
The sack of the NFF will be foreign because Yusuf Suleiman CANNOT sack his elder brother (Muazu) from the board which ordinarily is illegal. So, the option may be to revert to sacking Siasia who is reputed to have gotten the job ahead of Stephen Okechukwu Keshi on the strength of the fact that he is from Bayelsa State like President Goodluck Jonathan.
Anyhow, going by his contract with his employers, the NFF, Samson Siasia is supposed to resign. For the fact that nobody resigns in Nigeria, that option may be slim. The other option is for him to be sacked. Who will sack him? An illegal NFF without kidney or liver as led by a failed nomad?
My reason. Samson Siaisia has as part of the conditions of his contract to qualify Nigeria for the semi-finals of the African Nations Cup. Since he did not even qualify for the African Nations Cup, does he have a moral ground to remain on the job? So, if he does not have the honour to resign, then, he deserves to be sacked in line with the terms of the contract. If he remains, he is in breach of the contract of his employment.
Maigari's board should be sacked not Siasia |
WHY SIASIA DOES NOT DESERVE A SACK: A friend of mine who knows where I stand on the Samson Siasia issue from day one called and wanted to know my position in view of the current events. I told him, “was it not the members of the Nigerian public that forced Siasia on the NFF as midwived by a jaundiced Nigerian sporting media?” Why should we not take another six months to debate whether it is fair or wrong to sack Siasia in view of the failure to qualify for the Nations Cup?
He laughed hoarse. He knew I was only being satirical. Then, he asked, “Is the sack of Siasia the solution?” I replied, we don’t have a football institution. Ten Siasias will never succeed in this environment. So the sack of Samson Siasia will never solve the issues at hand.
It is the colourless, visionless and odourless board of the NFF that should either be sacked or asked to resign. Then, we have to start the entire re-building process. One structure we really need is a football institution. That is when coaches will enjoy working as coaches, the players will appreciate being players, journalists will stick to reportage and not ‘selling’ players on their pages or doing coaches’ PR. Then, administrators will give us a football institution that will produce a worthy league not one where the NFF is conducting a (s)election which its 2010 statute did not empower them to conduct!
When ur national team has players with league we only hear about but never watch, play 4 clubs dat we have never had of,come to play 4 the NATIONAL TEAM AS IF WE DEY BEG DEM,get promises 4rm the so-called NFF/NFA,TO BE GIVEN CASH IF THEY BEAT DIS & DAT,Goes on rampage cos the coach is trying 2 instill displicine,Blame A PROPHET 4 there failings,& unwillingness 2 accept responsibility 4 there failure.THEN AM SORRY 2 SAY EVEN SIR ALEX,PEP GUARDIOLA,& THE SPECIAL ONE "MOURNIHO" Cannot help nigeria national team....so siasia can't kill himself 4 nigeria.if dem like they should sack him & bring whoever,if the attitude of dis players is not corrected even FABIO CAPELLO WILL FAIL WHEN HE COMES TO COACH NIGERIA.
ReplyDeleteBoth of them need to go. The board for hiring an unqualified coach and Siasia for having no clue what he is doing. He never should have been hired in the first place. During the hiring process, I thought Siasia would be a mistake. Lesbian would have been a better choice based on his better experience, but even he, needed more time to develop. The board touted Siasia's success as a junior coach. This I thought and believed was due to the use of over aged players at the junior level.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing other African nations have done to catch up with Nigeria is to greatly improve in the area of sports administration. We are lacking in this area and it is what we are paying for now.
